A Magical Day at the PNE: Adventures with My 5-Year-Old

As summer draws to a close, there’s one event my son and I eagerly look forward to: the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE). This year, the PNE is in full swing, and we couldn’t wait to dive into the fun and excitement. Let me share our delightful day at this beloved Vancouver fair.

Morning Joy: Playland for Little Thrill-Seekers

We started our day bright and early at Playland. My 5-year-old, Shiv, was bursting with energy and couldn’t wait to hop on the rides. Our first stop was the Kiddyland area, perfect for young children. Shiv’s eyes lit up as he rode the mini Ferris wheel and the gentle carousel. The highlight for him was the Balloon Explorers ride, where he got to “fly” in a hot air balloon.

Midday Treats: Fair Food and Fun

After a morning of rides, we were ready for some classic fair food. We indulged in cotton candy and mini donuts, which Shiv declared were “the best ever.” We then explored the agricultural exhibits, where Shiv was fascinated by the farm animals. He loved petting the goats and watching the baby chicks.

Afternoon Entertainment: Shows and Performances

The PNE offers a fantastic lineup of family-friendly shows. We caught the Super Dogs show, and Shiv was mesmerized by the talented dogs performing tricks and stunts. It was heartwarming to see his excitement and hear his giggles. We also enjoyed the Dueling Pianos show, where Shiv danced along to the lively music.

Evening Fun: Midway Games and More Rides

As the day turned to evening, we headed to the midway games. Shiv tried his hand at a few games and was thrilled to win a small stuffed animal. The lights and sounds of the midway created a magical atmosphere. We ended our day with a ride on the classic Wooden Roller Coaster.

Final Thoughts: Cherished Memories

The PNE is more than just a fair; it’s a place where memories are made. Spending the day with Shiv, seeing his joy and excitement, was priceless. Whether you’re a parent, a thrill-seeker, or just looking for a fun day out, the PNE has something for everyone. It’s an end-of-summer tradition that we look forward to every year, and this year’s visit was truly special.

I hope this gives you a glimpse into the magic of the PNE through the eyes of a mother and her young son. Have you had a chance to visit the PNE yet? If so, what was your favorite part?
